Roy Bailey
Biography
Roy Bailey was born in Bangor, Maine in 1933. After graduating from high school and serving four years in the Navy, he moved to New York City to study at the School of Visual Arts. Upon finishing, he attended the Pratt Graphic Art Center and studied privately with Seong Moy. In 1959 he relocated to Nantucket and set up a permanent studio. His first one man show was held at the National Arts Club in New York in 1962, followed by a feature article in "American Artist Magazine" in 1963. He subsequently was featured in one man shows in Palm Beach, Aspen, Midland, Texas and the prestigious "Hammer Galleries" in New York City. In 1970 he moved to Southern Vermont. Additional credits include two books: "Woodcuts & Word" with L.S. Davidson Jr. and "Recipes with Love" with Gwen Gaillard.
