Marie Powell has been an artist on the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington State for many years. After a 19-year career as a high school teacher, she now devotes her time to creating beautiful works in pastels, oils, and mixed media. In recent years, Marie has focused on printmaking, producing vibrant original pieces known as monotypes. Dividing her time between the Pacific Northwest of the United States and New Zealand, Marie’s art is deeply influenced by the people, landscapes, and cultures of both regions. Her work features a wide range of subjects, including coastal scenes, floral compositions, forests and foliage, the human form, and at times, pure abstraction. Her distinctive style is characterized by strong contrasts, vivid colors, collage, and layered printmaking techniques, incorporating a variety of materials such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, and soft pastel. Marie currently works both in Whangārei, New Zealand, and at the Port of Ilwaco, Washington, where she owns and operates the Marie Powell Gallery, located dockside at the Port of Ilwaco.
