Song was born in 1955 in Wuhan, China, and moved to Canada in 1988. He brings an oriental perspective and a unique style to his oil paintings. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art from Zhejiang Art Academy in 1982. After graduating, he worked as an art lecturer at a university and as a professional artist at the Hubei Art Academy. Several of Song’s paintings were selected by the Chinese government for international exhibitions, including in the United States, Japan, Turkey, Kuwait, and Hong Kong. Five of his works are now part of the permanent collection at the Art Museum of China. In addition to his participation in Chinese National Art Exhibitions, Song has received numerous awards in both China and abroad. His painting won the City of Toronto Archives Purchase Award at the 1995 Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Song paints most of his works en plein air, while living and traveling across North America and Europe. His work is heavily influenced by the landscapes and the warmth of the people he encounters. Through his art, Song aims to express his love for Canada, the USA, and their people, and he hopes his paintings foster a deeper connection between viewers and nature. His works are held in private collections worldwide. Tilting at Windmills Gallery is proud to exhibit the works of Xiao Song Jiang.
