Full Artist Bio
Jenny Horstman enjoys working with scrap metal, random pieces of discarded hardware and antique tools. To create the work she searches scrap yards to find interesting shapes and objects which serve as the raw materials for her sculptures. As an artist she recycles the found objects and gives them a new meaning and a new life. Thus transforming discarded items into new sculptural entities that present an aesthetic challenge for the viewer. The identity of the original found items disappear into the sculpture, while at the same time encouraging the observer to discover the original, familiar objects within the composition. Ruffian and Foolish Pleasure were such endeavors with much time spent viewing old photographs of the two horses to capture as much of the personalities and physical characteristics as possible. Being a member of the Pipe Fitters Union for thirty years, welding on the Trident nuclear submarine, the Alaska pipeline and nuclear power plants to say a few, she is able to create life size sculptures with the greatest of delicacy and talent.
