X SONG JIANG

X SONG JIANG

Greetings from Tilting on Father's Day!

Today I wish to share an amazing artist that I am proud to have as part of Tilting at Windmills Gallery, X Song Jiang. His style and unique ways to create his oils is most compelling.

Throughout his early career, Song has received numerous awards as one of the representatives of Chinese paintings with works displayed at international art exhibitions in the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Turkey, and Singapore. He also had the honor of having four representative works collected and preserved at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) and three works at the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum.
In 1988, Song immigrated to Canada and invested a passion for its vivid scenes of the broad North American landscape. While there, he traveled widely from coast to coast and gained some 20 years of experience forming his unique style of a mixture of brush and knife with attention to the unique natural detail, richer handling of light, shadow and depth in each piece, which has won him numerous awards in North American exhibitions and art festivals.
He now lives by the lake in Toronto, Canada with his wife and son. He is influenced by the beautiful land and friendly people. Through his paintings, he wishes to express his love to the North American landscape and all its people.

Enjoy the following video. You will be very impressed.

PAUL BATCH IS BLOG ARTIST TODAY!!!!

PAUL BATCH IS BLOG ARTIST TODAY!!!!

Why did I seek out Paul Batch's art for Tilting's walls. Because I adore his trees and subtle landscapes. He is a young artist that is very productive and succeeding in a challenging career with a young family to care for at the same time. Quite a juggle!
Paul's work has been enjoyed and collected for almost a year from Tilting's walls. I am in love with his pine trees as I grew up under one that I can still hear the wind passing thru the branches and the sound it makes. Thank you Paul for bringing that to me mind. Following is Paul's bio and a wonderful video for your viewing.

Paul Batch Bio

Paul Batch is a contemporary painter praised for his evocative atmospheric landscapes. His paintings are a poetic response to the fleeting and ephemeral light cast by the passing sun or rising moon. He focuses on transitions, painting various times of day, changing weather, and the rich seasons New England offers.

“My work reflects the tone and qualities offered by nature. I strive to convey a felt experience through my art. Though most of my work is representational, I keep myself open to embracing the more abstract elements of each individual scene.”

Paul received his BFA and MFA from the Hartford Art School where he studied under the late great Stephen Brown. He is an award-winning member of Oil Painters of America and Portrait Society of America. His work has appeared in numerous publications including the Artist’s Magazine, International Artist and Fine Art Connoisseur. A native of Massachusetts, Paul resides in Massachusetts, with his wife and their two children.

JANEL PAHL AND HER BIRDS!

JANEL PAHL AND HER BIRDS!

Janel Pahl recently began showing in Tilting at Windmills Gallery and has acquired a great many followers of her works.
Following is a bio and statement from her.

Janel, in the last thirty years, has traveled the world photographing the beauty of this earth. Recently, she has extended her creative passion to a new art form. This new medium, encaustic, reflects her love of nature in a pure, simple, artistic form. Textures, layering, color and composition are important features in her pieces.

Janel Pahl is a Master Photographer, an approved PPA instructor and a national judge for the Professional Photographers of America. In addition, she is a teacher of photography and has inspired aspiring and professional photographers around the world. She has presented her workshops in Canada, Italy, Korea, England, Ireland and throughout the United States. Her images have won numerous national and international awards. Along with her portraits, Janel’s fine art images are published with the Canadian art group Winn Devon.

Artist Statement

“As I grow older, living life with purpose has become important to me. Creating art with a message is something that is new to me. Our world can be a bit ugly sometimes, filled with anger and hate towards each other. My message is simple. Love. Love which creates beauty. Beauty I find in nature. While I make no attempt to portray my subjects as realistic, I do want my creations to appear as if they have lived somewhere. I do not take life seriously, but my intent is to live life with a passion for it. My art is just that. Living with beautiful art that pays tribute to the natural world reminds us to slow down and helps us reconnect with nature and each other.”

JOHN VAN ALSTINE

JOHN VAN ALSTINE

John Van Alstine is on the blog today!!!

John and his wife are fortunate to have wonderful property to shelter in place while each being a productive artist. They consider the situation as almost an “artist’s retreat” – where an artist might go to isolate themselves from the rest of the world and work without interruption (and not distracted- if you keep the News and media off ...)!
John embarked on a new bronze “self-distancing" / Covid series, trying to incorporate some of the themes he has worked on for many years (like the “myth of Sisyphus”). His goal was to bring meaning and an artist voice to these very unusual times. He ponders many artists in the past that were able to use dangerous and uncertain times to spur on their creativity (Shakespeare during the black plague, artists during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic like Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, and many others who were faced with Nazism or the great depression, or even the McCarthy era in the 1950’s).
John is highly collected and his work is admired world wide. Following are several insightful videos for those who care to learn more. The first is a recording of the installation of PORTAL in the front of Tilting.

AMY LAY IS FEATURED ARTIST TODAY!!!

AMY LAY IS FEATURED ARTIST TODAY!!!

Today I wish to share artist Amy Lay!  Her original oils exhibit a vibrancy, a sense of looseness and a comfortable nontraditional style.   Heavily inspired by her experiences of a life growing up in the shadow of the Eagle Cap Wilderness of Northeastern Oregon, Amy developed an intimate love and fascination for the animals and wildlife on her families 5 generation mountain ranch. Primarily self-taught but grateful for her Art Degree from Eastern Oregon University, Amy’s career has evolved from childhood dream to realiity.

Now painting primarily in Oils, a bold use of color, powerful yet simple design and an ephemeral quality in her use of medium influenced by years of painting strictly in watercolor has given Amy’s work a highly recognizable and unique signature quality.  Her work dances across the often thick line between realism and abstraction, traditional and contemporary and because of this appeals to a very broad and often newer clientele.

Amy is presently being featured with four other female artists in Jackson Hole Wyoming at the National Museum of Wildlife Art!!  An honor in deed.  More of her work can now be found in homes and private collections across the United States and can be obtained exclusively through several Fine Galleries and select Art Shows.

KURT MEYER EBERHARDT 1895 -1977

KURT MEYER EBERHARDT 1895 -1977

Today we honor Kurt Meyer Eberrhardt.   Mr. Eberhardt is one of my very favorite etching artists!  His use of line in his rivals any in my book.  He captured my heart when I first saw his depictions of Hares and chicks.

Kurt Meyer Eberhardt is one of the most famous and revered artists of dogs and cats ever. He was born in 1895 in Leipzig, Germany and died in Munich in 1977. After having studied at the Weimar Academy of Arts, he moved to Munich in 1918.. At the Weimar Academy OF Fine art, where he had become A student under the artists Theodor Hagen and Lionel Feininger. He rejected A professorship at Weimar .In 1926 he held his last exhibition in the "New Secession."His work has been published by the Hanfstaengl Publishing Company in Munich, London and New York since 1917.

He was a staunch individualist who rejected the offer of a professorship in Weimar because he valued his independence too much. The only thing he wanted was to continue depicting his beloved dogs, cats and other animals. The prints shown here have been hand printed in color from the original plates. The printer applies the different colored inks to the plate, following the original patterns and directions as given by the artist himself.

SUSAN BUDASH SHARES WHAT IS ON HER EASEL TODAY

SUSAN BUDASH SHARES WHAT IS ON HER EASEL TODAY

Susan tells her story:

I was born and raised in Chicago and first began to display an interest in the creative arts while in elementary school.  My parents, recognizing a talent, enrolled me in three years of weekly oil painting classes with Jack Simmerling, the accomplished Chicago landmark water colorist. Majoring in art during high school, I was awarded an Illinois State Scholastic Fine Arts Award.  Following high school graduation I continued oil painting, while pursuing a career in the computer field.  From 1990 to 1997, I earned a BFA in Printmaking and an MA in Contemporary Art History at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

My studying Modern Art History and further applying that knowledge in creating art, with conventional and non-conventional materials was stimulating and enjoyable, but it left me feeling unfulfilled and unchallenged as an artist. In less than five years I was provided an opportunity to twice visit Italy and see its magnificent art collection. The genesis of this esthetic experience instilled in me a quest not only to return to Traditional Painting, but also to actively seek out the archival methods and materials used by the Old Masters and apply them to my own creative expression. In so doing, I’ve discovered my creative voice.

With the completion of my MA, I opened my first studio, which has provided me with years of creative challenges and accomplishments.  My creative voice has always been inspired by the techniques and methods of the Classical Master Artists.  Much of what I’ve learned about their methods is self-taught.

My work has been published in many publications, most notably American Art Collector Magazine (2010 and 2013), as well as having exhibited in numerous national juried shows.  I give painting workshops, demos and teach private instruction in the old oil painting methods known as Indirect Oil Painting.

Susan has entertained us with many of her mason jar series that have found their way to new homes.  The painting shown is the first step in her process with a block in monochromatic.  This is from Amelia Island, GA.
