Announcing a great show……
STEP BACK IN TIME

A SILENT AUCTION is taking place
Saturday……October 7
ALL DAY
Bidding ends at 5 PM
To note……..Bidding has commenced due to many not being able to attend.

Novel and unique to Tilting’s history, we are presenting a show of 30 period originals from the known Dorset Painters and a few others that you will recognize. As many have experienced, two collectors find the need to disperse of their private collections. I am finding this an interesting experience as I live near the homes of many of these past creators. Plus many stories have been shared regarding past associates and relatives who enjoyed being taught by many of these artists.
Arthur Jones was taught by a Dorset Painter and went on to teach one of the artist in the show (now deceased) how to paint. So many connecting links that it has be fascinating. I do hope you stop in to view the show. Bids have started and can take place beforehand because many are unable to attend the show in person. I will call if bids are topped. I do hope you enjoy the show and if you would like to see a pdf of what is available
please call 802-362-3022 or my cell at 802-379-1175
and I will record your offers and or answer further questions.
Or email at tilting@tilting.com

Thank you for sharing the love of art.
Regards,
Terry

PS……many other new artists and works by old favorite artists are constantly updated
for your pleasure.

Announcing
The Celebration of Life
for Sean W Hunt
Founder of Tilting at Windmills Gallery
July 20, 2023
5PM – 7PM
Sean Hunt passed away peacefully at his home in Sun City West, Arizona on August 22, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Winona Bell Hunt and John Pinkson Williamson, who predeceased him.

Sean served on active duty in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Antietam from 1958 to 1960 and thereafter in the Naval reserves until 1964. He attended the University of Florida where he received his BA degree. He went on to study at the Berklee College of Music where he earned a Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition.

Sean was a gifted guitar player who performed with The New Christy Minstrels, Al Jarreau, and was a back-up guitarist for Gordon Lightfoot.

He lived in a number of interesting locales including Sausalito, CA, Palm Beach, FL, Bluffton, SC and Las Vegas, where for a time, he was a blackjack dealer.
Sean moved to Manchester, Vermont in 1971 where he established Tilting at Windmills Gallery with his friend Tom Simmons. Because of Sean’s business acumen, artistic vision, and diligence, Tilting became a well-known destination gallery. He won several awards for gallery and frame shop design (Décor Magazine) and co- authored a book titled “The Art of Creative Matting” with Valerie McClure. He lectured on framing and matting both in the United States and abroad. In 1990, Sean sold the gallery which continues under new ownership.

Sean enjoyed marathon running, having completed the NYC Marathon, The Marine Corps Marathon and the Ultimate Runner. He avidly studied numerology and astrology.

Sean was devoted to his family, and is survived by his daughter Hileary Bell Cleary, his son-in- law Neil R. Cleary, and granddaughters Grace Bell Cleary and Lily Emma Cleary who reside in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Despite having moved to Arizona in his later years, he loved Vermont and the many friends that he left behind.

Thank you Sean
for imagining and creating such a special,
destination gallery that has gifted to each visitor
an art filled memory to savor.

As November arrives……the show goes on.

A. HALE JOHNSON RETROSPECTIVE

Hale’s show continues to the delight of the viewers and collectors. The show will hang through November for those who missed the show’s opening. The following link has 95% of the art in the show…….

Home

Hoping to commemorate a great master that successfully sold in Tilting for over 46 years.
50 PLUS paintings to peruse!

It is amazing how successful his passion made his life.
An attribute of art is that it provides a continued connection to the artist and his inner spirit. Each of Hale’s paintings provide insight into his love for history in day to day lives.  Antiques, architecture, textures, simple compositions that issue a multitude of stories and interpretations.  He will be sorely missed.

I look forward to sharing time with you.
Regards,
Terry

A wonderful accomplishment for Tilting at Windmills Gallery as it celebrates its 50th year.  Thank you to Sean Hunt for following and creating his dream.  Thank you to Harry and Suzan Claytor for their years of continuing to the growth of Tilting.  Most of all thanks to all the artists that have followed their creative desires and imaginations to produce wonderfully loved art.  Most important to mention are the avid collectors wishing art to be a significant part of their lives.  Tilting possesses a very special spirit that combines all the fore mentioned ingredients to be the success that it is.  You are invited to visit if you are seeking a memorable experience.

Autumn arrived beautifully. We are in a flood of color and visitors. Vermont is a destination to celebrate the change of seasons. Tilting is offering a special show from September thru December for Gunter Korus who passed on in August at 96. Due to Covid’s increased numbers in Vermont, a typical show is not possible. But please feel free to come see what a master produced in his life of creativity and beauty.

WE ARE ALL READY FOR SPRING!!!

It has been a long winter and a long 2020.  The gallery is transforming from winter to spring and it feels uplifting to see flowers outside and inside.  Green is such a comforting color.  The featured piece……

A FEW GOOD WORDS….oil on linen….40″ x 48″

was my therapy painting for last years’ frustrations.  Each night I would add a couple (if time permitted) words that gave me peace of mind and hope for daily life incorporating many of them rather than continued hostility and anger.

Spring brings rejuvenation and possibilities that we can’t even imagine.  Looking forward to a wonderful  year ahead and to your visits!

A. HALE JOHNSON SOLO SHOW

A. HALE JOHNSON SOLO SHOW SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10TH
After 48 years in Tilting
and many solo shows,
this one will be like no other.
Hale is unable to attend and with Covid
I feel that a typical opening
is not suitable to the times.
It is a challenge to maintain social distancing
inside the gallery eating tasty morsels
with many people.
The show will start the weekend of
Columbus Day and last into the holiday season!
It is a sad decision
But I believe a wise and safe one.
Appointments are encouraged.
Masks are requested during your visits. Please call 802-362-3022
Thank you for your patience.
