Summer is a time of renewal and new growth for families and friends to reconnect, to take to the many trails by bike or by foot, or bring a picnic to a Vermont Symphony Orchestra concert. There are plays at Dorset Theater and Weston Playhouse, and jazz session at a local ice cream parlor. You can hike Mount Equinox or participate with us as we sponsor for the fifteenth year The Vermont/New Hampshire Race for the Cure. You might even encounter one of our fine artists -- Elizabeth Torak, Gerald Lubeck, Douglas Flackman, Michael Fratrich or Oscar Durand -- who are on location in this area this summer. Manchester and the Mountains are vibrant with the change of season, an enticing invitation to our artists and patrons to engage in Summer's longer days and to fall in love with the impression of Vermont in its most artistic and creative season.

The gallery is filled with exciting new works from our artists and international artists. Louis Guarnaccia used his own Koi pond in Nantucket for "Elizabeth in Koi Pond", an original oil on canvas, 24" x 30". Guarnaccia portrays a child's curiosity - attentive and fascinated, poised on the edge with a hint of hesitancy, dipping fingers, seeing her reflection - and surrounds her with the luxuriant greens of summer in full bloom.

Douglas Flackman's "Summer Reflections", an original oil on canvas 32" x 48", with its misty allure and motionless wild-life suggests the essence of tranquility, the most serene summer scene. Through miles of driving and nights camping out, Flackman develops an intimacy with his subject. He has the unique ability to at once observe and skillfully capture on canvas the illusive, ever-changing light and the rich texture of swaying wild reeds. He invites the imagination to thoroughly experience the spirit of nature's bounty through his eyes.

Colin Thompson, with whom we have worked extensively for the past fifteen years continues to travel to Zimbabwe to acquire the exciting Stone Sculpture you see at the gallery. The procurement process is precise and thorough, often taking a year before carefully selected pieces reach America. "Rufaro" by Mandidwa is a fabulous work in Brown Serpentine Stone, 18" x 32".

Steven Stroud's painting "The Waiting Room" an original oil on canvas 30" x 40", brings vitality and energy to Grand Central Station. This vivid rendering, infused with cell phones, suitcases, kids in shorts and sneakers, and a sense of moment, is electric with movement and good humor.

Mark your calendars for Saturday October 9th, 2010 for the biggest exhibition of the year. A demonstration with Douglas Flackman, Michael Fratrich and Mark Wilson Meunier. Each artist began working last year to present to their collectors at this upcoming champagne reception. Michael Fratrich's relocation to Dorset has situated him amid Vermont's magnificent mountains and the Mettowee Valley, views that have inspired his new paintings that celebrate the American Spirit with covered bridges and Early American farmsteads. The October exhibition will be his first with Tilting at Windmills. Douglas Flackman will once again bring his collectors an exciting body of work that has been one and a half years in the making.

Mark Wilson Meunier is working on a limited number series of spectacular original forest scenes in egg tempera. "Forest Light", egg tempera on panel 18" x 24", is indicative of the softening luminosity produced by this medium. The woodland come to life under Meunier's rare expertise, with deep shadows, moss and fallen leaves evoking the scent of the earth, a living entity. Our best wishes to Mark who married Trish Mailler in August.
